While it is true, babies do not understand that it is Halloween or what this celebration is about and BETTER! Well, the truth is, I never paid attention to it; For me this day was always an excuse to dress up, eat sweets and go out to party!
But since I became a mother, all the celebrations took on another meaning, since now I am the one who must create the magic of this day for my family. What a responsibility! If you also want to make this day special for your baby, here I tell you my best tips to make this Halloween 2023 memorable!
- Plan the costumes:
You only have two years to choose your baby’s costume, I assure you that once your baby discovers who his favorite character is, you will no longer have a vote in this decision, so enjoy choosing the costume while you can. I like to choose fun and familiar costumes. As an example, last year we were the Flintstones (Peter, Wilma and Pebbles) and this year we will be Peter Pan (Wendy, Peter and Tinkerbell), I already have an idea for next year, let’s see if “Lili the toddler” stills let me choose .
Here are some recommendations for choosing your baby’s Halloween costume:
- Choose the costume early because some are difficult to find or make.
- Keep the weather in mind! You don’t want your baby’s costume to be covered under a coat all the time.
- Try to prioritize your baby’s comfort above all else and remember to choose costumes that you also feel comfortable in to care for and chase your baby all day.
- Choose a Halloween event to attend as a family
In my childhood, going trick-or-treating on the street was always the most fun part of Halloween, however, at my baby’s age, trick-or-treating is not the best option. For this reason, we chose to look for “family friendly” Halloween events. Many restaurants, parks and stores organize these events designed for family fun, take the time to look for one and reserve it in advance.
If you can’t find a good plan, I recommend organizing your own party. We will do that this year and I am so excited!
- Plan Halloween activities at home
To get the Halloween vibes going, I like to play Halloween-related games and activities all week. This is my way of introducing the excitement of Halloween at home, here are some ideas.

- Paint pumpkins as a family

TIP: If you do all this while listening to kids’ Halloween music and wearing witch hats, it all feels a lot more fun.
Create a family tradition
Whether it’s painting pumpkins, taking a photo each year, or organizing a pumpkin hunt (American tradition). Do an activity every year and make it your tradition.
We took a family photo and painted pumpkins. In my virtual store I share a Halloween photo prop to take a family photo or to take a photo of your baby. You can download it for free here: Halloween photo prop
And if you want to save the Halloween photo this year with a special frame, I also have a Halloween 2023 photo frame so you can keep this souvenir photo forever. You can download it here: Halloween 2023 photo frame.
I hope these ideas help you create a special Halloween experience for your baby. Remember that you have your baby’s childhood in your hands and your family’s memories too, make it memorable.
With love, Ale Valdez Tips.
